Infrastructure

Bridges, locks, and steel structures are subjected to intensive use, changing weather conditions, and prolonged mechanical stress. Corrosion and wear not only affect the material itself but also directly impact the safety and availability of the structure. De Koninggroep takes care of surface preparation, coating, and preservation for infrastructure projects. From new builds to renovation and routine maintenance. Always aimed at long-term protection, controlled maintenance costs, and minimal disruption to operations.

Working in infrastructure

Infrastructure projects have specific requirements when it comes to planning and execution.

Work often takes place on structures that remain in use: traffic keeps moving, shipping continues, and operations do not stop. Access is limited. Security is not an afterthought. Alignment with clients, road operators, and other contractors is essential.

That's the environment we work in. At height, on the water, in stages, and under time pressure. The Galecopper Bridge is a good example of this: 120,000 m² blasted and protected, with no disruption to traffic or shipping.

Our role in construction and maintenance processes

Early involvement helps avoid problems later on.
De Koninggroep's specialists are engaged in new construction, renovation, and maintenance work. We assess the condition of the structure, the load it is subjected to, and the desired service life. We coordinate technical decisions and the schedule in advance to prevent risks and delays later in the process.

Surface preparation

Removing corrosion, existing coatings, and contaminants, and verifying cleanliness and surface profile before further work.

Application of coating systems

Executed in accordance with specifications and matched to the structure's specific load, environment, and required service life.

Quality control during execution

Continuous monitoring and immediate correction where necessary. Not only upon completion.

Documentation and handover

Full recording of work carried out, measurement results, and inspections. Valuable for asset management, maintenance, and follow-up in the years after delivery.

New-build projects, maintenance, and renovation

In new-build projects, the basis for long-term protection is established. The structure of the system and the quality of execution in this phase determine the maintenance schedule and the structure's lifespan.

In renovation and maintenance projects, we work on structures that continue to operate while work is carried out. We assess the current condition and determine where protection should be applied, repaired, or improved. Execution takes place in phases, minimising disruption to operations while maintaining maximum control over quality and scheduling.

Application and execution by De Koninggroep

De Koninggroep works on a wide range of infrastructure assets, including:

  • Bridges
  • Locks
  • Steel constructions
  • Civil infrastructure

Conditions vary from project to project. The starting point: protection against corrosion and wear, matched to usage, structural load, and environment, using systems proven in real-world conditions. We apply innovations as soon as they have proven themselves in comparable conditions. You can find more about our applications on the Innovation & Technology page.

Why clients choose to work with De Koninggroep

Clients working with De Koninggroep know exactly what to expect. Schedules are met, even in complex environments where multiple parties operate simultaneously. The coating systems are matched to the structure's real operating conditions, not just to whatever happens to be readily available. While the work is being carried out, we minimise disruption to the environment and day-to-day operations. And after handover, we remain accessible, even long after the scaffolding is gone.
